I have often been asked where The Man in the Garage came from, so here it is:
A couple of years ago we were looking to get pets for our kids, We settled on guinea pigs.
After many hours looking at hutches and the recommendations of how to keep them as pets to give them the best life possible. I realised the only way to fit them in our home and give them the space they need and deserve, was to design and build an enclosure myself as all the pet shop offerings were dismally small or the wrong shape/size.
Being environmentally conscious I then decided to use materials otherwise destined to be wasted.
So…… With limited space, tools and experience I set about the task. A friend let me use their garage as a workshop, but progress was slow. I spent a lot of time preparing materials and researching techniques. Made mistakes, sourced better tools, perfected techniques and eventually got what we needed.
This crazy looking thing that now homes our family pets. below is the nearly finished example.

But it didn’t end there, I had bought these tools. What should I do now?
So I started tinkering and upgrading my tools while building a larder cupboard out of a huge preloved wardrobe my friend had picked up. They gave me a sketch of what they had in mind and said “see what you can do”.
That larder now sits proudly in that friends kitchen and while introducing me to everyone as the man that lives in the garage encouraged me to start building other things as I have a talent for it.
